Procedure to Remove Brake Pads

The vehicle is parked on a level surface. The transmission is set to neutral and the parking brake is released. The hood is opened and half of the fluid is drawn out from the reservoir on the master cylinder kit. The old fluid is stored in a safe place for recycling. The lug nuts are loosened on rear wheel assemblies with a lug wrench.

Both the tire/wheel assemblies are raised using a floor jack. The jack stand is placed on either side near the wheels and under the frame. The vehicle is now lowered on to the jack stands and floor jack is removed.

Both the rear wheels are removed and the brake pads are replaced on the brake assembly. The brake caliper is lifted from the bracket. Mounting position of the plate should be noted for re-installing.

Installing New Brake Pads

Brake dust is wiped from brake assembly with brake parts cleaner. The new plate wear indicator is installed. Brake caliper is positioned on the bracket and the lower caliper guide bolts are tightened with hex socket and ratchet.

The brake hose is attached to the suspension arm with the help of nose pliers. The brake pads are replaced on the opposite brake assembly. Both the lug nuts and rear wheels are installed. The vehicle is lowered using a floor jack. New brake fluid is added to the reservoir. The brake pedal is depressed completely. Finally, it has to be ensured that the brakes are working properly.
